  • A great way to start a collection is to go on a nature hike.

  • You can start a rock or fossil collection.

  • You can start a leaf collection.

  • You can start a flower or seed collection.

  • You can start a feather collection.

  • Are you or a child in your class going on vacation near the ocean? Start a seashell collection.

  • Go on a caterpillar or a chrysalis hunt, observe it metamorphose into a butterfly and release it.

  • Take photographs of your local birds. To see more exotic birds, go to your local zoo or aviary.

  • Did you save those pumpkin seeds from last fall? Plant the seeds and chart the vine and fruit growth.

  • Observe a spider spin a web.

  • Observe weather conditions during group time. Have the children describe the weather using graphs and pictures. Post in science area with pictures taken from old magazines.
