History

4-C in the Past and Today

After three years of work by a group of determined visionaries, Community Coordinated Child Care, Inc. (4-C) was incorporated in 1971 as a non-profit child care resource and referral agency. Original goals established for the agency were to collect and analyze child care data; to develop programs, training and related services to improve the quality of child care; and to bring agencies together to promote improvement in services to children.

Today 4-C is part of a network of accredited, non-profit Wisconsin Child Care Resource & Referral agencies providing advocacy and support services for child care in an 11 county region. 4-C programs provide a broad range of services to families, early childhood professionals, and the community through three general program categories including Family Support Services, Health and Safety Services and Training and Quality Improvement Services. Collectively these programs strive to carry out the 4-C mission to ensure that every child has access to high quality care and education by empowering our communities and families through integrated support and equitable practices.

Meet Executive Director Marlo Mielke-Barnes

Graphic reads: "Meet Marlo: My name is Marlo Mielke-Barnes and I am honored to serve as the first African American Executive Director in 4-C’s 50+ year history. Our agency has a rich history of serving children, families, and child care providers in Southern and South Central Wisconsin. As we grow our reach and services, we have the opportunity to use my perspective as a Woman of Color, a single mom, a Madison East and Edgewood College graduate, someone who earned a Masters’ Degree in School Administration, a former Family Child Care provider, and a former Child Care Director to make a positive impact with the populations we serve. I look forward to collaborating with and advocating for children, families, and early childhood professionals to better meet their individual needs and grow our community." it is signed "Marlo" with a heart.
