The Board of Directors of 4-C shall have no fewer than 9 and no more than 13 members. 4-C seeks Board Director representation from Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Jefferson, and Sauk counties and the Ho-Chunk Nation. The Board is comprised of consumers, child care providers, and community representatives, with two to five members derived from each group.

Consumer representatives are defined as parents or persons utilizing child care services.

Provider representatives are defined as administrators, directors, teachers, assistant teachers, and family child care providers.

Community representatives are individuals who may not necessarily have any affiliation as a consumer or provider of child care.

Board Directors serve three year terms. Terms run from January 1 - December 31. Board Directors appointed after the second quarter will serve the additional months on their first term which will begin on January 1 following the date of their appointment. No Director will serve more than three terms consecutively.

THE BOARD’S JOB

The Board of Directors sets general goals and policies for 4-C; delegates authority to implement Board policy; hires, periodically evaluates, and terminates the Executive Director; sets the annual budget for 4-C and oversees plans to secure adequate funding to meet its goals. The Board creates a forum for identifying needed services for children and seeks to establish objectives relevant to these needs. 4-C develops position statements on issues related to children’s services and represents the goals of 4-C and the needs of young children in the community. Periodically, 4-C’s Board of Directors evaluates program operations and the agency’s impact on children’s services.
